Damon Independent School District

Damon Independent School District is a public school district based in Damon, Texas (USA).

In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency.[1]

Elementary school

Damon Elementary (grades pre-K to 8th) contains just fewer than 180 students and approximately 20 staff members. We have a superintendent/principal and an assistant principal. In the 2008-2009 the school boasted 100 percent in reading, writing, and math on the T.A.K.S. test.

Damon Elementary has a large variety of extra-curricular activities. There are many different kind of sports for the students to participate in. There is a football team, a volleyball team, a basketball team, a cross country team, and track and field competitors. There are also other ways to show your bobcat pride, including cheerleading, and a mascot. There are a few private baseball teams that many students in Damon Elementary participate.

Damon has recently added another beginner band, for a total of two bands. Both of the bands participate in spring and winter concerts. During the summer the band goes to band camp.

There is a student council group made up of ten students. There is also an Honor Society group made up of 3 students.

There are classes that are advanced such as pre-algebra and algebra for 7th and 8th graders. There is a Pre-Kindergarten class that attends half of a day at Damon Elementary. At the end of the year there is an annual banquet held for students who participate in extra curricular activities. There is a Pre-K and Kindergarten graduation along with an 8th grade graduation.

Possible closing

In 2008 the Houston Chronicle stated that Damon ISD could close due to a loss of population.[2]
